Frequently asked questions
We answer all those frequently asked questions about editing your book.
And if we haven't answered the one question you had, just ask.
Do I need to be a published author to work with an editor?
Not at all. We support all independent authors on the journey of self-publishing.
What format do I need to submit my manuscript?
We only accept manuscripts in Microsoft Word format. Please, please - don't send a PDF or a printed version.
How long does an edit take?
This depends on how long your book is and the editing package you choose. It can take anywhere from 1 day to 5 months. Developmental editing is more intensive and can require more time. Copy editing and proofreading is a little more straightforward and can take less time. But the length of your book also dictates how long it will take.
How much does an editor cost?
When do I have to pay?
Depending on the editing choice you make, you'll either need to pay in full up front, or pay a 50% commencement fee and the balance on delivery of your fully edited book.
I don’t want anyone else to see my work, will you sign an NDA?
We work to high security standards (2-step authentication, regular password changes, secure tools and 3rd party websites, etc). We've never had a security issue and don't plan to start now. We never share your work with anyone else, unless you direct us to do so for specific reasons. However, if you prefer we sign an NDA, we're happy to do so. Please have your legal counsel draft the document for us to review.
